Preparing for Your Birth

33-36 WEEKS

  1. Order your birth kit from In His Hands Birth Supply. You will need to request the custom birth kit for GB Khalsa. The folks at His Hands are very expedient when it comes to getting your birth kit to you on time, but in order to ensure a timely delivery it is best to order close to 36-37 weeks.  You can order online at InHisHandsBirthSupply.com or by using their toll free number. The list of items in the kit can be seen on the order form in the FORMS AND MISCELLANEOUS section in the back of this notebook. They also have a list of extra comforts on their website that you may like to consider. The price of the birth kit can fluctuate from the price on your order form. You are welcome to open the box. Please close firmly afterwards and place with your other birth supplies.

  2. Begin to gather the supplies from the BIRTH SUPPLIES TO GATHER FROM YOUR HOME on p.33 of your notebook. There is also a copy of this list in the section called Home Birth Supplies with links to most items. There is a natural desire to have all these ducks in a row but please don’t stress too much about having everything on the list. The baby will be born happily and will never know the difference. And PLEASE don’t go out and buy a lot of new things. We really do throw a few towels and sheets away if they are heavily soiled! (If you don’t have everything in your house ask your friends and family or visit the thrift store.)

  3. Order two newborn screen forms. The blank form for ordering is in the FORMS AND MISCELLANEOUS section in the back of your notebook. The number 2 has been written in the correct spaces. Please write your name where it says “client name” in the lower left hand corner. Try to do this between 36-37 weeks so they arrive in a timely manner. They will be sent to my mailing address.

  4. Both parents need to read the postpartum instructions in the back of the BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM NOTEBOOK several times before the birth. I will review the instructions with you both before I leave the birth, but because of the joy of having your baby in your arms and being tired it will be difficult for you to retain all of the information. I am always available for questions postpartum but reading through the instructions will help you feel more prepared.

  5. Begin charting your baby’s movements each day by using the Fetal Movement Chart on p.36 of your notebook at 38 weeks.

  6. If you or your partner are not legally married you will need to complete Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) paperwork so that the father’s name can be on the birth certificate. Rachel Cook is the office administrator for AOP paperwork. Please call her or text her at 512-350-1619 to arrange a time for both parents to meet together with her at her office to complete the paperwork by 38 weeks. The administrator cost is $75.00 payable to Rachel Cook.

  7. Fill out the UNOFFICIAL Certificate of Birth from the FORMS AND MISCELLANEOUS section in the back of this notebook. We do not need the baby’s first or middle name until 4 days postpartum so you can leave that and the date/time of the birth blank, but please fill in the baby’s last name. If you live outside the city limits we will need the precinct number that you live in. That number can be found on your voter’s registration card.

  8. Download contraction timing app: iPhone | Android
