Birth Supplies to Gather from your Home

If you don’t have some of these things on hand, visit the thrift store. Old towels and sheets are best, as we often throw out heavily soiled linens. Wash everything in HOT water and dry in a HOT dryer. Fold and put items in large, brown grocery sacks that are in good condition. Tie each bag with string (please do not tape bags shut) and label what the contents are in large letters. The tying is to keep the contents clean and labeling in large letters helps us find items quickly if we are in a hurry.

BAG  1 – SHEETS

  • 2 Fitted Sheets

  • 1 Flat Sheet

One fitted sheet is for use during the birth and should be old. The remaining fitted and flat sheet are for after the birth. If you would like, when your labor begins you can make the bed up with the fitted and flat sheet for after the birth, then place the heavy duty vinyl mattress protector, then a fitted sheet on top for the birth.

BAG  2 – TOWELS

  • 7 old bath towels (10 is optimal if you are using the birth pool) I have loaners if needed.

  •  7 old washcloths or an old towel cut into washcloth size.

It helps if these are soft and not too thick. We use these on your forehead and neck while in the birth pool and to bathe yours and the baby’s body after the birth.
